Hello Holga.

This is Holga. I discovered her via Emmanuel, the photographer we have hired for the wedding in Mexico. Every picture he has posted via the Holga has made me catch my breath. They are that amazing. The pictures created with this camera are not crisp. They are not as brightly hued as the quality you would get were you to use a digital camera but, the effect created by the film is unbelievably nostalgic. Which is exactly the feeling I want to capture while touring Ireland with my husband.

Here is an example of what the Holga can capture:

Isn't it absolutely beautiful? Hopefully I'll get a chance to play around with one before departing to Mexico. And, hopefully, I can persuade Emmanuel to put his Nikon down every so often to capture June 26th with Holga in hand, too...

oh camille! i certainly wouldn't say that i am a holga queen, but i do have one, and a bit of experience using it.

it's pretty fickle camera, and you have to hold it together with electrical tape, and must be okay with spending an absurd amount of money on the film and then the development (unless you get a 35mm holga instead of the one that requires 120 film!) that may not even turn out well, but i've gotten some good photos out of it. if you have any questions, i'd be glad to answer them!

(p.s. -- i took all of the photos in this set with my holga: http://www.flickr.com/photos/svitska/sets/72157604333830691/)

Whitney, thank you for your advice! Fran was telling me that all the photography people at UH that are into the Holga are over it now due to the cost of film.

I'm going to keep researching but in the meantime, I'm admiring all the Holga pictures I can get my hands on!

From what I hear from the super serious photo folks at school the holgas are cool but like Whitney said, a royal pain in the ass. My guess is they will soon go the way of stupid mustaches, mesh back trucker caps, fixies, jorts, fannie packs.

I love that it's called the Holga.
That's enough reason to get one.
