On second thought.

I have never been in such dire need of a drink as today.

You take one puking pre-kindergarten teacher and you send her home. Then you assign one enthusiastic chaperon (that would be me) and a classroom full of wannabe cowboys & cowgirls on a wet, cold, day pack them on a bus send them to the Rodeo and what do you get? Absolute hell.

Today I somehow shepherded 26 four years olds in the rain from Reliant Arena out into the parking lot. I not only managed to keep them corralled, I also managed to keep them from running out into the oncoming school buses on multiple occasions. I also cajoled a few boys to pee in the rain. Why? Because after waiting for more than an hour in the rain for the buses to arrive, shepherding a full class back to the arena for a few stinkers seemed like more trouble than it was worth. Especially when the tents provided such a great buffer from the elements. On our long journey back I had three drooling children collapse into deep slumber on my shoulder, lap and hand. Then as my cherry on top, I had the distinct pleasure of hoisting a sobbing child in a vain attempt to comfort him. Only to find out that I too, would cry if crap were coming out of my pants.

By the grace of God, the 26 hellions and I made it back to school in one piece. I had previously expressed an ardent interest in teaching pre-kindergarten. After today's wet mishaps, I think that dream has been completely erased from my "to-do in life" list.

*There's no point in me bothering to mention the panicked livestock and unfortunate bunnies who encountered these grubby little hands. Use your imagination.

You have GOT to be kidding me!!!
Peeing in the rain?
Crapping in pants?
The poor bunnies...
Dahnya -- this is HILARIOUS.
So sorry you had to go through it, but at least it made for an excellent story/blog entry!

Wow, this sounds like my job multiplied by 10.... I admire you for taking charge of that many hellions in the middle of the rodeo! (i.e. the world's biggest petting zoo)

I can only picture you trying to quickly corral little boys into peeing in the corner!
